Description

Since the 80’s laser cooling has become a major tool in atomic physics. The very low temperatures achieved in dilute atomic gases has allowed the realization of Bose-Einstein condensates and degenerate Fermi gases. More recently, the ability to load these quantum gases in optical lattices opens new perspectives in simulating the rich physics of electrons in condensed matter systems.

Program

  1. Laser cooling and trapping
  2. Below the Doppler limit
  3. Ideal Bose and Fermi gases
  4. Collisions and weakly interacting BECs
  5. Bogoliubov expansion and hydrodynamics
  6. Fermi gases (2 lessons)
  7. Efimov states
  8. Quantum gases in optical lattices (3 lessons)
