Faculty : Stéphane LAVIGNAC
Tutor : Raffaele Tito D’AGNOLO
ECTS : 3
Language of instruction : English
Key words : quantum field theory, non-abelian gauge theories, spontaneous symmetry breaking, Standard Model of particle physics.
Description: this lecture provides an introduction to non-abelian gauge theories
and to the Standard Model of particle physics. Topics include: basics of non-abelian
gauge theories (Yang-Mills); spontaneous symmetry breaking, Goldstone theorem
and the Higgs mechanism; construction of the Standard Model and its main
phenomenological aspects; quantization of non-abelian gauge theories; computation
of the Yang-Mills beta function; anomalies.
Prerequisites: Quantum Field Theory I, basics of Feynman diagram computations
(see e.g. Schwartz or Peskin & Schroeder), basics of representations of Lie groups
(see e.g. Schwartz Section 25.1, or Peskin & Schroeder pp. 495-502)
