Somewhat unexpectedly, a fully-funded PhD place has become available for theoretical quantum optics/cold atom physics, to start this October (although some flexibility is possible). This is a UK research council studentship, which means it is primarily aimed towards UK students, but can also be taken up by EU students (subject to a quota maximum across the whole University, which I do not believe we are currently close to reaching).

There is some flexibility, however the general subject area is intended to be on formation and interferometry with bright matter-wave solitons in attractively interacting Bose-Einstein condensates, for which there is a long-standing collaboration with the Durham experimental group of Simon Cornish
