Description

The course concentrates on fundamental concepts such as degeneracy, long-range order, coherence and superfluidity. We analyze these phenomena and present their manifestations and consequences in different physical systems that are put into perspective. The treated subjects include: Bose-Einstein condensation, from the ideal gas to interacting systems, mean field approximation, quantum vortices, the notion of phase and symmetry breaking, different aspects of superfluidity.

We will present both classical experiments and recent developments, the richer physical examples will be developed in tutorials. Technicalities will be avoided as much as possible leaving a detailed microscopic study of these systems for the next year.
