Statistical physics of neural assemblies coding for space and memories : old tools for recent experiments ?

Remi Monasson (Laboratoire de Physique Théorique, CNRS et Ecole Normale Supérieure, Paris) — October 2, 2014

Recent experimental progresses in neurosciences in imaging, recording, and stimulating neural cells make possible a detailed characterization of the activity in brain areas at the population level. The availability of those data is a strong incentive to re-assess and extend the statistical physics models of neural networks introduced in the eighties, deeply connected to spin glasses. In this talk I will show some examples of recent experiments and of the related modeling, with a special emphasis on the representation of space and on memory consolidation.
