Description

Polymers are large nanoscopic objects that exhibit multiscale structures and dynamics due to their specific shape. Indeed, a polymer melt reveals in its mechanical behaviour a cascade of dynamics from the molecular level – glass transition aspects – to the macroscopic level – for instance normal stress effects. Starting from the mesoscopic structure – Gaussian statistics, Flory model – and dynamics – reptation, we will progressively describe the system at smaller and smaller space and time scale (including Rouse, Zimm, and scaling law for the “blob” physics – toward the physics of polymer glass. This last point will be described in the frame of the latest developement in the physics of glasses.
